Dear Parents and Carers,
End of the Academic Year
I hope that this finds you well, and hopefully looking forward to the Summer Break. Our year has come to an end. This has certainly been an unusual and eventful year, and I want to thank you for your support throughout the many twists and turns. This has been an incredibly difficult year for our Broadford community, the pain of losing Mrs King can feel overwhelming at times but together we are learning to heal. It has also taken its toll on us watching two of our pupils and their families go through the indescribable but amazing to see them rise up again and again after each challenge. What I have learned is that challenges are what makes life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes it meaningful.
As with the butterfly, adversity is necessary to build character in people.

The last day of school … the closing of one door and the opening of another. I want to thank each one of our pupils for all of the memories made, their hard work and the learning that we have shared this school year. We have watched you learn and grow and change from day to day. When we teach you we also learn. This past year we have grown together. A little bit of each of you will always be with us.
To all of the parents and carers, we say thank you for allowing us to be your children’s teachers. It has been a wonderful and rewarding year for us all. I have appreciated your commitment to Broadford Primary School and have appreciated your involvement in helping us to do the best job we can for your children.
I must also thank our magnificent staff team, all of whom have coped so well with the demands of lockdown and remote learning, having to work in ‘bubbles’ and then dealing with COVID outbreaks on occasions. Throughout it all the school staff have remained focused on meeting the needs of our students.
So it is with cherished memories that we send our pupils off today, with great hope and expectations for what next year holds in store.
Attendance and House Points
Congratulations to Rowan and Ash classes who won the attendance league, enjoyed their reward and watched a theatre production and earned themselves some extra trail time. Well done to these pupils for remembering their number 1 job of coming to school everyday on time.
I am thrilled to announce that Chatteris Blue House are the summer term house point winners for doing their best in school and for being kind and polite to everyone they meet.
We are very proud of you all.
Obstacle Race in Aid of Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund
I am thrilled to announce the total of our fundraising for the summer term. We decided to raise funds for the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund who provide support for families who have children who are receiving care and treatment for Cancer. As we have two families facing these challenges at the moment we wanted to support a charity who could offer some support and assistance to our own children.
The non school uniform days raised - £309.35
Mr Squibb and his company JFF Security and Solutions LTD donated - £500
Sponsorship money from the obstacle race - £5992.42
Which brings our grand total to £6801.67
Lisa Green from LCCF came into school to accept a cheque and was overwhelmed by the final total. Thank you all so very much for your support and generosity.
Return to School: Thursday 2nd September
We are looking forward to welcoming back pupils in years 1 - 6 on Thursday 2nd September.
We are currently planning for the safety of our pupils and fully expect to return to normal in September. However, as we are all more than aware this guidance changes regularly, so therefore I appreciate your patience at this time. We will share our plans with you as soon as we have them finalised and we are more certain that there will be any significant changes.
Summer Reading Challenge & Activities
Travelling abroad, enjoying a staycation, visiting a landmark, picnicking in the park or staying home, whatever it may be, we would love to see you reading in unusual and interesting places! Send your photographs via the school’s Facebook or Instagram accounts. These photos will then be added to our ‘Get caught Reading Map’ and shared on the Broadford’s Library Instagram page - don’t forget to give us a follow! A winner and runner up will be chosen when we return to school in September. All pupils will receive a certificate. Winners will be rewarded with national Book Tokens.
Closing date for entries: 10/9/21
Wild World Heroes, Summer Reading Challenge 2021
The Reading Agency and libraries are excited to introduce Wild World Heroes, Summer Reading Challenge 2021; a celebration of nature and action for the environment, in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund UK.
During the summer holidays children aged 4-11 can sign up at their local Havering library from 10th July, then read any six library books of their choice to collect special stickers and rewards along the way – all for FREE. This year only two library visits are needed, one to pick up a pack and a second to return a completed Book Review sheet in order to receive a medal and certificate. Parents and carers will be discussing books and giving out stickers to their children.
Visit https://www.havering.gov.uk/events/20039/libraries for our free Summer events.

GoodBye
This week we are saying farewell to several of our teachers who are moving onto new opportunities in September; Miss Tuffley and Miss Barnard. We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Marchant, who after 26 years service to the school has decided to take a break and spend some much deserved quality time with her family. On your behalf we would like to wish them all the best for their new roles and thank them for the positive impact they have had on our pupils and families.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Miss Hurrell and her partner who welcomed a baby boy to the world and named him Teddy. Mum and baby are both doing well and we hope to be able to meet baby Teddy really soon.
Please join me in sending Miss Rayner and her fiance best wishes as they prepare for their wedding at the end of August.
Thank you all for your gifts and kind messages that you have sent to school for all staff. All that leaves me to do is to wish you a relaxing and enjoyable summer break. For those of you moving on to secondary school we will miss you but we know you are well prepared for the challenges you will face and you go with our very best wishes for the future. If you are able to travel during these uncertain time, then I wish you a safe journey and we look forward to seeing you rested and refreshed for the start of the new school year on September 2nd.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a lovely summer break.
