At Broadford Primary School, we strive for a balanced approach to homework.
We understand that homework can serve different purposes: for some pupils, it’s a chance to reinforce what they’ve learned, for others, it might be a challenge, and for some, it can be an opportunity for creativity or valuable time with a caregiver during a busy week.
Daily Homework Expectations
We have a few essential home tasks that are important for your child’s progress at school. These tasks should be completed every day:
Recommended daily time:
- 15 minutes of reading (for EYFS, KS1, and KS2)
- 15 minutes of mathematics (for KS1 & KS2)
- 15 minutes of spelling (for KS1 & KS2)
Additional Home Learning Opportunities - Optional
If you’re looking for more activities, check out our home learning booklets for each year group. These booklets include extra ideas for reading, math, and other subjects.
Y1 - Y2: Homework Bingo - Optional
We know that children have many activities outside of school. If you have the time, KS1 pupils are encouraged to complete 4 or more tasks from the Homework Bingo cards. These achievements will be celebrated at school. Click here to view this term’s Homework Bingo.
Y1 - Y6: Worldly Wise Challenge - Optional
Pupils participate in weekly Worldly Wise assemblies to learn about various topics. The Worldly Wise Challenge gives pupils a chance to do extra research on the topic of the half term. Click here for more information on this term’s topic.
Fact Hunter and SPAG Detectives - Optional
Each week, pupils can solve SPAG errors or research interesting facts on a given topic. Exceptional SPAG skills and curiosity will be recognised and celebrated at school.
