Weekly Newsletter - Friday 13th September, 2024

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Part 1 Broadford News

We have had a wonderful full week in school and have welcomed our new nursery and reception pupils and parents into our Broadford family. We enjoyed our first E for Excellence assemblies and you will see from this newsletter we have alot to celebrate this week.

Curriculum Letters
Year group leaders and teachers will be sending home curriculum letters early next week. This will give you vital information regarding what your child will be learning this term. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us via the usual communication methods.

Parents Forum
We have tried to run the parent forum in many different ways and in the past have had representatives from classes and year groups and run open meetings for any parent to attend. We are going to trial a different system this year and use parent forum times as drop in sessions. There are specific dates throughout the year when myself and other members of the leadership team will be available to any member of our parent community if they would like to discuss individual issues or offer any feedback. I hope that many of you will be take us up on the offer and drop into the school office for a chat on the following dates;
18th October @ 1pm
13th December @ 9am
7th February @ 9am
28th March @ 1pm
17th May @ 9am
11th July @ 1pm
We look forward to seeing you there.

Year 6 Parents

As your child is now in Year 6, now is the time that you will need to make an application for your child to start secondary school in September 2025.

Without an application your child will not be offered a Secondary school place.

Please visit the Havering website www.havering.gov.uk/admissions/secondary where you will find a brochure titled  ‘Transferring to a Havering Secondary School in September 2025’ along with a short presentation video which explains the application process and answers some of the most common questions asked by parents. You will also find a link to the application system (eAdmissions).

All applications for Secondary Schools must be submitted online by no later than 31 October 2024.

Year 5 Parents

At this time of year the Secondary schools invited parents to come and look around schools and hear from staff what they can offer your child. You can find all of the dates for open evenings around Havering here

The Book Fair is coming
We are pleased to announce that the Book Fair is coming to Broadford once again! It will be held in the new hall (Charlton) at the outside entrance from 3.15pm on Tuesday 17th September, Wednesday 18th September, Thursday 19th September and Friday 20th September. The price of books start from just £2.99 and there is a special promotion of 3 books for the price of 2 (cheapest free)! If you are planning on making a purchase, we would be grateful for plenty of change if paying by cash or you can make contactless card payments. A percentage of the money raised will go towards new books for our library so please come along and support us by making a purchase.

Sustainable and Healthy Travel
To promote healthy habits, reduce traffic congestion, and minimise air pollution, we kindly request that parents and carers consider more active or sustainable methods when dropping off or picking up children from school. Whenever possible, please choose walking, scooting, cycling, or using public transport as your preferred travel option.

If you must drive, please ensure that you:

Park Legally: Follow all parking rules and restrictions.

Park Safely: Use proper parking spaces and avoid obstructing traffic flow.

Do Not Block Driveways: Avoid blocking school entrances or residents’ driveways.

Prioritise Pedestrians and Vulnerable Road Users: Be mindful that pedestrians and vulnerable road users should take priority, as outlined in the Highway Code.

Switch Off Your Engine: When you are stationary please remember to switch off your engine.

We ask you to be kind and considerate to our neighbours, treating their homes and streets as you would want yours to be treated. Please do not park on driveways or create obstructions. Your cooperation is essential in maintaining a safer, cleaner, and more respectful environment for everyone in our community.

Thank you for your continued support!
