As part of their topic this term our Year 1 pupils got to meet an assortment of animals. There were meerkats, giant centipedes, spiders and a bald guinea pig!
Seeing the animals up close and getting to handle them has really impacted on the children's descriptive language. The writing that they produced afterwards had a much greater range of adjectives.

We believe that in order for the children to be able to write or talk about an event or animal they must be given a meaningful chance to experience it for themselves. The excitement of seeing the animals also inspired their work and was a great way of celebrating what they have learnt in their topic.
