Weekly Newsletter - Friday 15th June, 2018

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 5 Residential - Mersea Island
This week our year 5 pupils braved the all of the activities at Mersea Island. They have been extremely lucky with the weather and have enjoyed blue skies and shining sun. We know that some of you faced your fears during your time in Mersea but fear is nothing but an obstacle that stands in the way of progress. In overcoming your fears you all moved forward stronger and wiser and we are all very proud of you. A huge thank you to our amazing staff who encouraged and supported the pupils and kept them safe while they were away from their families. Congratulations to each and every one of you.

Diary Dates
We start the week with the Drapers’ sports day on Monday 18th. Good luck to all of the athletes taking part. The choir are rehearsing at the Queen’s Theatre in the afternoon in preparation for their performance at the theatre in the evening.
On Tuesday 19th year 5 are taking part in a Macbeth workshop, year 6 are working with Rev Rich regarding their legacy and year 4 are going to London for a river boat cruise.  In the evening we are welcoming our new Nursery parents into school for an introduction to Broadford.
On Wednesday 20th we welcome parents and carers of pupils in Mulberry along to their sharing assembly at 9.05 am.
Year 1 are visiting the forest as usual on Thursday afternoon.

Bring your friends, families and neighbours along to join in the fun. If you are able to give up some time on the day or would like to run a stall at the fete, please see one of the LFPA volunteers. Many thanks.

Havering Catering Services
Week beginning Monday 18th June is Hungry for Football week. There is a special menu for each day of the week to celebrate the World Cup. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.20.

Havering Catering Competition
KS1
All KS1 pupils should have received a copy of the picture for the colouring competition and I am looking forward to seeing some of the creative menus they have come up with. Each school taking part will have a winner who will receive a terms worth of school lunches (which will be honoured when they move up to KS2). All winners will then be whittled down to 1 overall borough winner and 2 runners up. The overall winner will win a whole academic years’ worth of school lunches and the recipe on the next menu with the name and school and the two runners up will get 2 terms each of school lunches. The initial individual school winner will be drawn on the 12th July and the overall winners will be announced on 17th July.
KS2
The veggie run badge collection started this week. There will be 10 badges to collect in total and over a five week period the collection should be complete. In order to collect them,  KS2 pupils need to purchase a school meal on the allocated days to receive the badges. Those who have collected all 10 badges will be entered in to a draw when 2 pupils will win a bike with crash helmet each. The draws will take place in school on 12th July and all winners (2 from each school) will be awarded their prize at the Town Hall on 17th July.
