World Book Day & Literacy Week:
Thank
you for the incredible support you gave to the World Book Day. It really was a
stunning success, and the children really enjoyed it. The aim is to inspire a
love of reading and literacy. We have tried to do that through ICT, Drama, Art
and visitors to the school. The staff winners of the costume competition were
Mrs Marchant (the outstanding Gingerbread Man outfit), Mrs Chiswell (Queen of
Hearts) and Mrs Axford (The White Rabbit). The children below were all winners
in their category. First prize (from left) was £10 of WHSmith vouchers, with a
2nd prize of £5 and a 3rd prize of a certificate.
EYFS – Lola
T (Thing 2) & Jack E (Harry Potter)
Year 1/2 – Kaine
P (Willy Wonka), Jude G (Harry & His Bucketful of Dinosaurs) & Sophie A (Witch)
Year 3/4 – Sophie
H (Princess Jasmine), Summer T (Thing 1) & Lucy F (Hermione)
Year 5/6 – Leah W (Mary Poppins),
Elizabeth K (Miss Havisham) & Chelsea M (Fairy)
We were extremely impressed with the attention to detail in the costumes. Who would have thought of actually wrapping up a in cling film spoon with some sugar on it to complete a Mary Poppins outfit? Leah did! It goes to show that it is really the thought that counts. It was a very simple touch to actually get a bucket and fill it with dinosaurs... but very effective!
Clearly our children are very well read. Even classic characters like Miss Havisham and Oliver Twist featured. In the year of Dicken's 200th birthday, what a way to celebrate his incredible talent for story writing.
