Year 1&2 Jet Off To St Lucia

On Friday, Freshwater Theatre company came to take Key Stage 1 children on an exciting adventure to the beautiful Island of St. Lucia. After strapping on our seat belts we landed at the capital city Castries where we met by our friendly coach driver who took us on our island tour. The aim of the session was to help the children experience the island of St. Lucia through role play and it certainly inspired their imagination!
During our visit we took photos of the rainforest animals, chopped bananas at the banana plantation, climbed Gros Piton; the tallest mountain of St. Lucia, had some tropical fruit and learnt a dance for carnival.  The children were very engaged with the experience; when encouraged to look around at all the rainforest animals we had sightings of grubs, spider monkeys, exotic parrots and even some snakes.

The children returned to Broadford from their Caribbean adventure and were eager to tell all about their experience;

 “ My favourite part was learning the dance for the carnival”  Yeliz Kaya

“ I liked learning how to speak Creole!” Kaine Painter.

Armed with all these new facts to inspire our writing this week the children will create their own postcard from St. Lucia using PurpleMash and even prepare their own tropical fruit salad based on the St. Lucian cuisine!
