Fact Hunters: Spiders & Barbie

Did you know that when a spider spins its web, it uses an auxiliary thread which isn’t sticky. This allows it to get on with the construction without becoming attached to its own web.

Amazingly the Barbie doll, which was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler, was named after Ruth’s daughter Barbara. The Ken doll was named after Ruth's son and was introduced two years after Barbie in 1961.
