Spinebreakers Hunt Paddington Bear

Pupils from Broadford Primary went on a bear hunt with a difference last week. In preparation for their upcoming visit to see the Paddington Bear movie, the Spinebreakers team went out to hunt for the bears which have been hidden in central London.

"The Paddington Bear stories have really caught the interest of our Key Stage 1 pupils. Bears have been part of the topic for this term and for a treat, we have booked the Vue Cinema in Romford for the children to go and see the feature film. When our librarian - Miss Sparkes - heard about the trail we knew it would be a great opportunity to get the children even more excited about the stories and character." Malcolm Drakes - Headteacher

Although the bears are spread out between Covent Garden and Bond Street, the children didn't let the distance stop them. In just a couple of hours they had tracked down bears designed by Ant & Dec, Nicole Kidman, Hamleys & Boris Johnson.

"My favourite bear was The Bear of London. It was covered in all the famous landmarks: Queen Elizabeth Tower, St Pauls and a black cab!" Harry Vincent aged 9

In school the children have designed their own bear hunt, written posters asking for a missing bear to be returned and designed instructions to make a marmalade sandwich. Each afternoon the children in Year 1 and Year 2 have also been read another exciting instalment in the adventures of the world famous Paddington Bear.

"This has really bought a classic character to life and encouraged a new generation of children to love these well known tales!" Miss Sparkes - Broadford librarian
